COOLING TOWER

Cooling tower is a device used to reject waste heat in atmosphere through the cooling of a water stream to a low temperature. During the cooling tower working process, small volume of water evaporates, lower the temperature of water that being circulated through out the cooling tower.

EVAPORATIVE COOLING:

An evaporative cooler is a device used to cools air through evaporates on of water, Its also called as swamp cooler, desert cooler and wet air cooler. Evaporation cooling differs from typical air conditioning systems, which use vapour compression or absorption refrigeration cycles.
For evaporating cooling the cooling potential is dependent on the wet _bulb depression, the difference between dry-bulb temperature and wet-bulb temperature. It can reduce energy consumption and total equipment for conditioning as an alternative to compressor based cooling, in arid climates.

Wet bulb-> Twb adiabatic saturation temperature

Dry bulb temperature is used to determine the state of humid air.

Dry bulb-> Tdb air temperature

The knowledge of dry bulb, wet bulb or dew point of only two is enough to determine the state of moist air including the content of water vapour and sensible and latent energy in the air.

NATURAL DRAFT COOLING TOWER:

Natural draft cooling tower are essentially used in large power plant industries.   • Forced draft
  • Fan assisted natural draft

INDUCED DRAFT:

A mechanical draft cooling tower with a fan at the top which pulls up air through the tower. Induced draft tower fan induces moist hot air from the tower and pull it out. This produces low entering and high exiting air velocities, reducing the possibility recirculation in which discharged air flow back into the air.

FORCED DRAFT:

A mechanical draft cooling tower with blower type fan at the intake is a forced draft model air force through by the fan into the tower. Which creates a high entering and low exiting air velocity.

FAN ASSISTED NATURAL DRAFT:

It is a hybrid type of natural draft cooling tower but it has fan which assisted air flow through the tower, in natural draft cooling tower it does not having a fan.
